Sprite

July 19th, 2007

So it's been a little hectic at our house and I'm a little worried about Sprite.  I'm was hoping that he would snap out of his depression with a little time. It has only been a little while, so maybe it's not long enough to say, but we're worried.    He is afraid to leave the deck and go into the yard now that she is gone.  We have to take him out.  He is eating, but only if we are there watching.  He sniffs the ground where her bed was (we buried it with her).  He follows us wherever we go.  I don't know if it's because he is deaf and he was dependant on Lucky to hear for him.    We are leary about getting another dog because he is so important to the kids now.  It's almost like they realize how important life is.  They give him baths, put sunscreen on him and vaseline around his eyes.  I would hate to somehow make him less important by bringing in another dog.  I also have reservations about a Boxer because of the health problems.  I swore when Lucky got sick I would not get another Boxer because I could not take the grief, but does Sprite need another dog?    Anyway, are you sorry yet that I have your e-mail address? Thank you for everything,   Cindy Eureka

It's Cindy from Eureka.  I wanted to let you know that Lucky died yesterday.  She held on for alot longer than we thought and we were so glad that we had her as long as we did.  Sprite is doing OK, but is of course sad.  I think in a way he might be relieved because she was so aggressive towards the end.  This may sound horrible, but in a way I am relieved too because we no longer have to make a hard decision.  Lucky made that decision for us.   We have been so preoccupied with other things because my husband's Mother died last week, that I don't think we realized that Lucky has been sick too.  I wish she would have waited a little longer because now the kids have two major losses in two weeks, but I guess these are things that life throws at us.    In a couple of weeks, we will be coming to Reno to put my Mother-in-laws dogs on a plane to North Carolina.  She had a Schnauzer and a Poodle and the Schnauzer doesn't like our 5 year old.  They are going to live with my husband's brother and they have older children.    I will let you know for sure so we can stop by with Sprite to say hello.  He is such a good dog and is so happy with us.  I think now he will be even happier because he doesn't have to worry about Lucky's mood swings.  He can play with whatever toys he wants and whatever kids he wants without any competition.  I will call you when we are coming.   Cindy

On a happier note, he loves the kids and sleeps in their room at night. He goes to the groomer every two weeks and that is his favorite. The groomer has boxers and he plays so well with everybody. When we first got him and were training him, he was very skeptical about playing with the kids. He would hang his head and look away like he was scared almost. Now he runs through the house with them and chases toys. He is so happy and we are so happy to have him. Thank you again.

Sprite had a sunburn, he now wears waterproof sunscreen everyday.  I think because we are at a higher altitude, he burns faster.  He had an ear infection and is on medicine and we are putting aloe vera on him until he doesn't look red anymore.  It really doesn't break his heart when we put lotion on him though.

Lucky and him are thick as theives (almost to a fault).  Sprite got put outside because he ate a hot dog that did not belong to him off of Zachary's plate.  Lucky had to go outside to console him.  She stayed mad at me for longer than Sprite did.  She licked his ears and layed with him.  It was very pathetic.

I'll send more pictures later, we have a few good ones.

I wanted to send you some pictures of our new guy.  It really seems like he has been with us all along.  We were worried about training him on the underground fence, but I think we will have no problems.  He goes where Lucky goes.  They get along very well with the understanding that she is the Queen.  The cat is a different story, I think if Sprite could eat the cat while we are not looking, he would.  Fortunately, the cat is too fast for him.  Eventually they will learn to exist together.

Sprite seems perfectly content to sleep with the kids and Lucky could care less (she likes her own bed).  They run him all day and then he crashes.

He went fishing yesterday for seemingly the first time.  He loved the water and the people.  He was so friendly and happy to everyone.  He loves the kids and follows them everywhere they go.  They can walk him on a leash and he will let them lead him and not pull them around. We are so happy to have him.  Thank you again for everything.

Cindy

Sprite came to us from Boxer Rescue LA. After being at the rescue for almost a year, he was transfered to Boxers and Buddies in hopes of increasing his chances at finding his forever home.

Sprite was adopte by a new family that promises to love him and care for him - and give him two little boys to play with!

Congratulations, Sprite!
