Oscar’s path to our home has been a long journey and has fate written all over it. I will have to go back to the very beginning to tell the whole story.

Once upon a time (2008), a very kind man lived in LA and worked with a boxer rescue: BRLA. Oscar had somehow made his way there and captured Christian’s heart. At that time, Christian had a lovely Pit Bull Terrier named Cookie, a tiny baby Boxer girl named Peanut and welcomed Oscar into their home. Unfortunately, Christian and his girlfriend broke up and he could only take Peanut with him. Oscar’s mommy assured him she would be able to take care of both Cookie and Oscar. In a very sad turn of events, she could not keep Oscar. Because of Boxers and Buddies’ affiliation with BRLA, and Sarah’s extensive knowledge of deaf dogs, Oscar came to Boxers and Buddies in Reno, NV of all places!!

Fast forward a year and Christian too has found his way to Reno! In an uncanny coincidence, he found love on a Boxer forum with Amy in Reno, NV. He moved up here with Peanut and Amy’s dog Titus (who also was rescued from Boxers and Buddies…but that is another story). Amy happened to see Oscar on the website and Christian confirmed that yes, that had been his boy. His heart was broken because they were not in a place that they could take in Oscar. He had to wait in rescue.  Christian and Amy prayed he would find a great home, but if he didn’t, they would rescue him when the time was right.

June, 2010…Christian and Amy are finally in a house, but Oscar wasn’t on the website. He had found a home. Sad for themselves, but very happy for Oscar, they prayed he was happy. On June 17th, Amy happened to go on the site and found Oscar was back up!!! A quick call to Becky, confirmation of an approved application, and the plans were set!!

Christian picked Amy up from work with Peanut and Titus, not having a clue where they were going. He thought maybe there were pictures or some fun event going on at Boxers and Buddies. “Go ahead and bring him out” was all it took for Christian to realize they were there for a meet and greet with Oscar!! Oscar ran to Christian, tears were falling and a happy ending had begun!!

Oscar has been a wonderful addition to our family. Everyone has gotten along from the second they met. Oscar knows he is home, Peanut is happy her brother is finally with her again and Titus is over the moon about not being the only boy anymore! Boxer cuddles and snores abound!! Thank you again Boxers and Buddies for giving us back a piece of our heart!!!

What can I say about my Oscar? He is deaf, white and almost 80 lbs. of pure Boxer love! I've been lucky enough to have him in my life for just about a year and a half and he's brought nothing but fun and laughter into my home. Oscar is a very special boy who deserves all the best this world can offer. His love for his family never wavers and he shows this every day with smiles and wiggles. He is potty-trained, crate trained and knows some basic commands (through gestures - he knows watch me, sit, stay and come). Being deaf, he's very focused on the people around him to show him what to do and he will do anything for treats so it's very easy to guide him along. Aside from being deaf, he also has a crooked jaw. We don't know how it happened (it was before our time with him) but his lower jaw is crooked and leaves his tongue hanging out of his mouth all the time.

He has no problem eating or drinking, in my opinion it just gives his handsome face a little bit of a goofy charm! : ) Oscar is a playful boy who loves treats, toys and sunbathing just as much as any other pup! The only health problem Oscar has had are some occasional seizures. They don't happen often (in the year and a half we've had him he's had about 6 total episodes) and are easily controlled by a $17 prescription of Phenobarbital given twice daily.  This is a small price to pay for having him in your life. You can tell by the pictures that he's been spoiled rotten : ) He loves basic walks, hiking, chasing flashlight beams in our backyard and of course lounging on the couch with his people! He's an amazing dog with an amazing heart.     I don't know what else to write about a dog I love so much! My heart breaks at the thought of giving him up but I know that right now, the life I can offer is not good enough for him. This was not an easy decision, the only thing that has made this bearable is the thought that Boxers & Buddies would consider helping Oscar find an awesome home with people who would do nothing but love and appreciate him for the rest of his life. I wish I could provide that home for him. I hope my words and pictures have been able to show the kind of beautiful soul my Oscar Mayer Mush Mouth has  : )
