Muppet was laid to rest today.

He was abandoned by his owners as a senior. Maybe they didn't want to pay the vet bills to take care of his infected anal glands (which were so impacted they subsequently had to be removed).

Maybe they didn't want to deal with his arthritis. His spine had started to fuse and he had difficulty walking.

Maybe the didn't want to pay for his hips. In his advanced age, his hips had started to deteriorate, making climbing stairs difficult.

Maybe they couldn't watch the decline of their once loved pet and instead of doing the humane thing and have Muppet put to sleep in the arms of the family he once loved, they chickened out and ditched him on the street to be someone else's problem.

We didn't get to know Muppet for long. We did learn that he had the sweetest disposition. He loved people - to be cuddled, to be held.

We learned that he earned the name "Muppet" - his face was so cute and cuddly, he looked like a Jim Hensen creation.

We learned that Muppet was in too much pain to go on - rather than watch him suffer any longer, he died in the arms of someone who loved him - if even for a short time.

Muppet is a very sweet dog. He would make a wonderful companion for anyone that just wants a lap dog. Muppet loves people and curls up very calmly and falls asleep. He is a little senior guy, and he had some surgeries to his back end, but he's not ready to thrown in the towel yet! Muppet will never be active or hyper. He occasionally has difficulty navigating stairs, but he’s just like the little engine that could and makes it every time. Do you or someone you know have room in your homes and hearts for a little Muppet?
