Marauder 4/25/09

April 25, 2009

Marauder is doing great. He's now up to 63 pounds and is finally looking like a real dog. he's no longer emaciated and now is just a bit skinny. He is eating well and LOVES the dogs in his foster home. He's sweet and playful. He loves his food and is still on three meals a day. He's wonderful in his crate and has pretty good house manners.

He's getting wormed today (yuck) but is also going on a field trip to play in the lake (hooray)! We hould have more pictures up soon!

April 14th, 2009

Marauder is up to 56 pounds! He's eating well and putting on weight - he's over his cold and is now becoming more outgoing and playful.

In about 2 weeks he should be going back to the vet to check his blood levels.

April 6th, 2009

Marauder went to the vet today for his physical and blood work. He weighed 51.8 pounds (up almost 7 pounds from his "weigh in" on April 1st). He tested negative for heart worms. His blood panel showed that he is anemic and his liver proteins are high. He was so emaciated that his liver was working overtime trying to break down his muscles to use them as energy. He also has a doggie cold called "kennel cough" and has started some antibiotics and cough suppressant to help him get healthy again.

The good news is the vet feels that his high levels are due to his poor condition and once he gets some meat on his bones the levels should even out.

The bad news is that means someone deliberately DIDN'T feed this dog to get him into this condition. A dog doesn't deteriorate like this over night or even over days. It took weeks to months to get Marauder in the condition he is in now.

We're going to try to keep up our postings on how Marauder is doing. He'll be on his cough medicine for about a week and the vet is estimating it will take about a month to get his weight back on him and his levels back down. So keep your fingers crossed for poor Marauder and check back in with us soon!

Marauder when he came to Boxers and Buddies 4/1/09

April 2, 2009

Marauder came to us April 1, 2009. Unfortunately his condition was NOT an April Fools Joke. Marauder is emaciated. He was an owner surrender to an animal welfare organization. The organization chose not to press charges for reasons that remain a mystery to us.

Marauder weighs just over 40 pounds. He should be closer to 70 at least. At this time we don't know if Marauder's condition is due to malnourishment or a medical condition. We're hoping that no matter the reason for Marauder being underweight that it is a condition he can overcome.

As thin as he is Marauder could not have a sweeter or more loving personality. He just loves everyone and wants to be loved. Everyone that meets him is amazed at his gentle nature.

Other than his weight, Marauder also has wounds and scarring on his face, ears and legs. Several of his teeth are worn down and broken. I don't know what he's been through up to this point, but I can promise you his life has not been a good one.

We'll keep you updated on Marauder and his condition as we know more.

I'm interested in Marauder
