Guido is a tragic story. He is the perfect example of what happens when puppies aren’t “cute” anymore. You may think that’s a mean thing to say – that Guido isn’t cute. I personally think he is a very handsome boy – Labrador/German Shepherd Mix, actually. But Guido came to us with his 6 brothers and sisters on May 12, 2008. Guido was 7 weeks old.

Guido watched his brothers and sisters get adopted, go to home, be loved. And still Guido waited. He waited past his “cute” puppy stage into his gangly adolescence. He waited through adolescence and is now boardering on his adulthood. For almost a year now Guido has watched over 200 dogs come in and go out of Boxers and Buddies– each time wondering if he wasn’t cute enough, smart enough, well behaved enough, to get adopted. He’s been to adoption events and watched people walk by him without looking.

Guido is starting to stress himself out. He is so stressed and depressed that he has developed a condition called Demodex Mange. Its non-contagious condition that causes him to lose his hair. He looks like a patchwork quilt.

I don’t know what is going to happen to Guido. He’s come so far and been through so much that his failure to thrive is really worrying me. We even have a volunteer taking Guido through obedience classes to help with his manners. Guido needs a home. He needs a family. He has been waiting for too long.
