Floyd is a tragic story. He is the perfect example of what happens when puppies aren’t “cute” anymore. You may think that’s a mean thing to say – that Floyd isn’t cute. I personally think he is a very handsome boy – Labrador/German Shepherd Mix, actually. But Floyd came to us with his 6 brothers and sisters on May 12, 2008. Floyd was 7 weeks old.

Floyd watched his brothers and sisters get adopted, go to home, be loved. And still Floyd waited. He waited past his “cute” puppy stage into his gangly adolescences. He waited through adolescences and is now boarding his adulthood. For almost a year now

Floyd has watched over 200 dogs come in and go out of Boxers and Buddies– each time wondering if he wasn’t cute enough, smart enough, well behaved enough, to get adopted. He’s been to adoption events and watched people walk by him without looking.

Floyd is starting to stress himself out. He is so stressed and depressed that he has developed a condition called Demodex Mange. Its non-contagious condition that causes him to lose his hair. He looks like a patchwork quilt.

I don’t know what is going to happen to Floyd. He’s come so far and been through so much that his failure to thrive is really worrying me. We even have a volunteer taking Floyd through obedience classes to help with his manners. Floyd needs a home. He needs a family. He has been waiting for too long.
