Here is the e-mail bio sent by Donnie's former adopters:

Donnie Doggo has had a very challenging life. He was a very young dog in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck, leaving him homeless.

Rescued by volunteers, he was put on a bus and ended up at a shelter in Las Vegas. Not the most friendly place, they used to hose out his cage with a fire hose while he was still in it (he is still afraid of the hose to this day), he was fortunate to be rescued by Boxers and Buddies in Reno.

Soon after arriving in Reno, he was adopted by a couple who gave him a good home for the past four years.

However, circumstances changed, and they could no longer afford to look after him, despite the fact that they truly loved him. And so he returned to Boxers and Buddies, where he hopes to find a new home.

Donnie is one of the most gentle and caring dogs we have ever seen, and he desperately deserves a new family to call his own.

Here is the original email about Donnie

Last year we had a horrible incident with Donnie (Adonis) and regrettably can wait no longer to start the search for a new home for him. Although Donnie really is the sweetest dog and I do not believe he would ever harm anything intentionally he sadly did kill one of Aaron’s mom’s cats. We have taken him over there many times before with no issues but I suppose something was just different and Donnie chased the cat and then because of the excitement he crushed it with his jaw. Donnie did not get off unscathed as he had many wounds as well. Aaron’s mom is a cat person to say the least with no less than five at any given time. It was unbearable to see her clutch the cat for the remainder of his ten minutes of life and we said then that we knew we would have to give Donnie up.

Of course we ignored the fact that we said we would give him up and went along with the next year avoiding any casual visits or our usual holiday visits with his mom. Once we did kennel him but Donnie did not do good at the kennel as I think it reminded him of his early life, he came back with the worst upset stomach and we said we wouldn’t do that again (poor Donnie). So as I said we have avoided any visitation and we just don’t speak about what happened.

Now that we have a baby on the way we just can’t see avoiding certain family members anymore, it just won’t work out for the best. Now we would like to make clear that the baby and Donnie is not at all the issue. Donnie is great with all people, kids, toddlers, and any size dog imaginable, the problem really is the strain on the family relationships that have developed and now we can no longer ignore it.

Donnie has come so far since we adopted him October 06 and never has any medical issues, never costs any money besides the obvious and is completely house trained. He truly is a great companion. So yes Donnie’s only issue is small non-dog animals but that's not rare for your average dog is it?. We have put this off for so long because this is very emotional for us, we know we have failed him and we are filled with grief.

Do you really think you can find him a good home he will love? We don’t know how you feel about this but we would also be happy to keep him in our home for the remainder of 2010 while we hope a good home is found for him. We would be willing to bring him down from Tahoe to visit potential new family members or any boxers and buddies events. We will do whatever is in the best interest for everyone involved especially Donnie Dogo, but of course we understand that this is up to you to decide. We wanted to hear what you thought before we filled out the release paper work. We also wanted to know about Donnie being able to take his belongings to his new home if we find him one. We would not want him to be without his crate and blankets, collars, leashes etc. He loves his crate, it smells just like him.

Adonis is a wonderful dog. He came to us from Best Friends Animal Rescue through their Hurricane Katrina rehabilitation program, Adonis and several other dogs were housed in a Las Vegas kennel for months - getting only one walk a week and no other interactions. Best Friends found trainers to come to rescue and rehabilitate these dogs - getting them used to people again as well as trained.

As you may have guessed, Adonis didn't have the best history. All of his teeth have been filed down flat. It doesn't seem to bother him as the only thing he ever uses them on is his dog food. He doesn't even tear up toys!

Adonis is shy at first but loves all people. He wiggles and wags and tries to crawl in your lap. A rambunctious puppy, he would be better in a family with older active children - he might overwhelm toddlers.

Adonis is very gentle and sweet. He loves to play - and his favorite toy is his water dish! He likes to pick it up and throw it around (empty, of course) Adonis needs a home to call his own.

Don't believe what you hear about "pit bulls" If you have ANY concerns, meeting Adonis will be all the convincing you need!

Please give him the second chance he so desperately needs!

I'm interested in Adonis
