Boxers and Buddies

Hugo

Hugo

On May 9, 2009, nine puppies were born in the shelter. The shelter scheduled them for euthanasia. A rescuer pulled the entire litter and their mom. As the puppies grew their mom wasn’t able to nurse them anymore. The rescuer brought the family of 10 to Boxers and Buddies to bottle feed the puppies.

One of those puppies was Hugo and he came to Boxers and Buddies just before he was 4 weeks old. He and the rest of his litter was weaned, handled every day, housebroken to a dog door, spayed/neutered and given all of their shots for the first year of their life.  Because Hugo’s mom is a mixed breed, it was difficult to guess what kind of puppies she had, so we had the litter DNA tested. When the results came back, we knew conclusively:

Hugo is the following breeds!
20-36% Beagle
20-36% Mastiff
10-19% Bull Terrier
10-19% Golden Retriever
>10% Bulldog

When he was 6 month old Hugo was adopted into what was to be his forever home. At Boxers and Buddies we try to educate our adopters that dogs are family members – just like a child. They need to be loved and cared for during their entire life. Dogs would rather stay with their families in less than ideal environments then be re-homed. All dogs, with proper exercise, attention, and training can adapt to any environment, including apartments. As part of the application and interview process, we ask our adopters beforehand the reasons they would give up a dog and offer resources to assist when there are issues. It seems like we can’t do enough – after a little over a year, Hugo was returned.

Now, at three years old, Hugo has to try again to find a family that will love him. He isn’t a cute little cuddly puppy anymore. But he is sweet and loving. He wants to please people. He likes being cuddled and is big enough to make you feel safe and secure. Please help Hugo find a home and hopefully a family that understands dog ownership is for LIFE
